North Country Council Match Services

Wildfire Planning Mapping Service

Purpose

Communities may wish to have background data which was used to determine assessment ratings for Wildfire Plans.

Description of Work

The scope of work for additional mapping is flexible and depends on the needs of the community. While general mapping is necessary to complete the Wildfire Plan for a community (which includes general topographic characteristics and final risk values), this complementary service does not allow for more extensive mapping. Additional mapping services may include a GIS layer for risk analysis to determine fire risk within communities. These risks may vary depending on local needs but could include road widths and seasonal conditions, fire service access, vegetation characteristics for fuel models, wildfire history, as well as others. While this information will be necessary to analyze a wildfire risk assessment for a community, the data behind the analysis will not be delivered visually to a community other than through these additional mapping services.

Timeframe

Any additional mapping will be linked with the community’s Wildfire Plan and could be delivered within those services. The Wildfire Plan timeframe will be dependent on community availability to the process, capacity of NCC staff and the community’s demand in relation to other issues the community may face.

Costs

Cost for this service depends entirely on the number and format of maps a community wishes to have produced. Cost will be negotiated depending on the length of time necessary to format maps, previous time spent working with the community on the Wildfire Plan and funds available from other sources.
