Senior Planner

North Country Council, the regional planning commission and economic development district serving the 51 municipalities and 25 unincorporated places of northern New Hampshire seeks professional planner to join its growing team.  The ideal individual will bring a background in land use and transportation planning, passion for positive contribution and an innovative approach to community planning.  The professional planner will work on various land use transportation, environmental projects on the regional and local level. Position includes hands-on assistance to member communities, update and implementation of the region’s plan, and special projects to increase the region’s resiliency.

Minimum requirements include a master’s degree in planning, and 2 years of experience or bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of work experience is desired.  Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is preferred. Must have strong interpersonal and written and oral communication skills; be able to make presentations; facilitate meetings; develop, lead and manage projects with minimal supervision. Willing to work in a team environment.  Experience with GIS, land use regulations, economic development, transportation or hazard mitigation planning a plus. Must have valid driver’s license and able to attend evening meetings.

  • Lead, manage and conduct community planning projects, multidisciplinary regional planning initiatives, and natural resource planning.
  • Provide day to day technical assistance and training to land use boards.
  • Review complex development proposals
  • Develop corridor plans.
  • Provide staff support and/or liaison to various internal and external boards, committees, agencies and organizations.
  • Provide guidance and training to other planning staff as needed.
  • Conduct outreach and education.
  • Provide small and large group facilitation services
  • Lead public engagement programs.

Associate Planner

Internships Openings

North Country Council is seeking interns for temporary positions for the upcoming field season. North Country Council is the regional planning commission and economic development district serving the communities in the northern third of New Hampshire. Our offices are located in downtown Littleton, New Hampshire.

Duties of which primarily consist of assisting with transportation data collection, data processing, and related data development to support transportation planning and roadway infrastructure asset management. Experience in ArcGIS Collector, and ArcGIS online would be plus.

Qualifications:

  • Junior or Senior, Graduate student, or recent graduate.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and own vehicle.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use standard computer equipment and mobile device.
  • Microsoft proficient

The successful applicants will have the ability to work as a part of a team of professionals, follow direction, complete tasks on time, and interact with the public in a professional manner. Fieldwork is a primary component of this position, and the applicant must be comfortable working as part of a two-person field team in rural outdoor environments under a variety of weather conditions.
