Base Map

Responsible Staff: James Steele

Purpose

A planning board may be working on a Master Plan, zoning changes or simply in need of a visual document showing the town’s boundaries and other spatial features. NCC can produce a base map, for these purposes, so a town can either display the map for the public and town officials to reference or can mark it up for planning purposes.

Description

A base map will contain the town’s boundaries, major roads, rivers and streams with major features labeled, a reference inset map, a north arrow and a scale. Depending on the town’s needs, the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) planner may be able to display one or two more layers depending upon availability of information and time needed to construct the map. One base map is available per town free of cost; any edits requested or additional base maps will be based on a $50 an hour fee.

Timeframe

Can be completed in a day but is based on availability of GIS planner.

Related Services

Master Plan - When a community is beginning a Master Plan process, it may be helpful to have a visual aid, a base map of the town to write on and reference.

Ordinances and Regulations - As with the Master Plan, when local officials are working on a CIP, Subdivision Regulations, Site Plan Regulation, and/or zoning, it is helpful to have a map showing the layout of the town to use as a reference.
